"Let's add ChatGPT to the site" is often taken to mean installing a ready-made bot. In reality it means using OpenAI's API service and connecting it to the site's own data.
Below: how to connect ChatGPT to a website, what it relies on to answer, and how the cost is built.
What connecting actually means
Technically, the site sends a request to the OpenAI API through the backend and shows the answer to the user. ChatGPT is not "embedded" into the site — it is called as a service, and each request is counted separately.
That means answer speed and quality depend not on the internet connection but on how the request is built.
What data it relies on
ChatGPT does not know a company's prices, services, or rules on its own. That data is prepared separately and added to the request — a process called "passing context."
- A base of frequently asked questions
- Service and price descriptions
- Working hours and contact details
- A product catalog, if needed
Does ChatGPT answer in Uzbek
Yes. ChatGPT understands Uzbek and replies in it, in both Latin and Cyrillic script. The quality can be lower than in Russian or English, especially with industry terms.
That is why the bot's data — prices, services, questions and answers — is prepared in Uzbek, and the reply language is set explicitly: the bot answers in the language the client writes in.
Connecting it to a Telegram bot
The same connection works for a Telegram bot: the bot sends the client's message through the backend to the OpenAI API and returns the answer. When the site and the bot share one knowledge base, both channels give the same answers and the data is updated in one place.
How the cost is calculated
OpenAI billing is based on the amount of text (tokens) in the request and the answer — not a monthly subscription, but pay-as-you-use. The cost depends on how many people use the bot and how often.
For a small business this usually comes to a few tens of dollars a month, but the cost scales linearly as usage grows — which is why setting a limit is recommended.
What happens when the answer is wrong
ChatGPT can sometimes give a vague or incorrect answer, especially when the needed information is missing from the passed context. Two safeguards handle this.
- The answer is restricted to the passed context only, with outside knowledge turned off
- If no answer is found, it hands off to an operator or a phone number
The first step
Before connecting anything, decide which questions the bot answers on its own and where a human needs to step in — not handing everything to the bot, but drawing a clear line, is what makes it work.
The AI service page shows what stages the connection goes through and how the price is built.
